Laparoscopic fluorescent lighting improves view of biliary structures (results)
Fernando Dip, MD, FACS
Misidentification of bile ducts during laparoscopic cholecystectomy can lead to bile duct injury. Drs. Raul J. Rosenthal and Fernando Dip found that adding near infrared incisionless fluorescent cholangiography (NIFC) to standard white light illumination during surgery increased identification of biliary structures in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The odds of visualizing a particular structure with NIFC were three times better than with while light alone.
