1st MasterTraining Program in Fluorescence Guided Surgery

The Hospital de ClĂnicas in Buenos Aires in partnership with ISFGS, hosted the first masterclass in fluorescence guided surgery on 13th and 14th of April, 2023. This highly informative masterclass drew in over 130 professionals from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Honduras, Colombia and Panama, among others, while others tuned in via a live stream.
The masterclass explored a wide range of topics related to fluorescence guidede surgery, including the use of indocyanine green (ICG) for ureter imaging in liver resection and pancreatic surgery, the role of perfusion assessment in colorectal surgery, and the application of ICG in bariatric and oncoplastic surgery, among other specialties.
One of the highlights of the masterclass was the lively discussions on the future of fluorescence guided surgery. Attendees were able to exchange ideas and insights on the latest advances and emerging trends in this exciting field.
To further enhance the learning experience for attendees, surgeries were simultaneously performed in two operating rooms with live video coverage. Attendees were able to observe sentinel lymph node detection using fluorescence, as well as other surgical specialties using fluorescence. Lessons from the application of fluorescence in liver surgery were also shared during the masterclass, adding to the diverse learning experience .
Overall, the masterclass was a resounding success, providing a valuable platform for professionals in the field to come together, exchange knowledge, and learn from each other. Based on the format of this first masterclass, we look forward to continuing future learning events as we continue to explore the exciting potential of fluorescence guided surgery.
