Dr. Lopez-Canino earned his medical degree and completed his residency in General Surgery at Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas, Camagüey, Cuba. He was then appointed as an Attending Surgeon at his alma mater, and later he relocated as a Consultant Surgeon at Edendale Hospital in Natal, South Africa.
After two years in South Africa he made his way to the United States, where he was granted political asylum and later became an American citizen.
He finished his internship in General Surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, and completed his residency in General Surgery at University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, FL. Afterward he joined ABC Surgical Associates in Belleville, NJ; a successful single specialty group of private surgeons, where he practice for five years. In 2015 he relocated to Miami, FL; where he has been establishing his General Surgery private practice.
Dr. Lopez-Canino is board certified in General Surgery and has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) since 2011. He is also a member of The Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), and the Society of Robotic Surgery (SRS). He specializes in General Surgery, with particular interest in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery.
