I am a subspecialist colorectal surgeon. I studied at the University of Sheffield from 1988 to 1994 and then did advanced training in general surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney from 1999 to 2002. I undertook post fellowship training in colorectal surgery at the Academic Surgical Unit at Castle Hill Hospital in the UK from 2003 to 2005. This is one of the premier colon and rectal surgery units in the UK and I was only the second fellow to be appointed for two years. I have been a consultant colon and rectal surgeon since 2005. The major focus of my practice is benign and malignant colorectal pathology. I have particular expertise and training in robotic and laparoscopic surgery, transanal minimally invasive surgery, diagnostic and interventional colonoscopy. Over the last two years I have performed around 20% of the robotic colorectal procedures in Australasia and I am the most experienced robotic colorectal surgeon in Australia. I am a full member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand and the section of colon and rectal surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. I am head of the department of colorectal robotic surgery at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and founding partner of Australian robotic colorectal surgery. I have over 50 peer reviewed publications and presentations to local and international meetings.
