Dr. Antonio Pesce is a general surgeon working at the Ospedale del Delta, University of Ferrara, Italy. He has Post-graduate Medical Specialty in General Surgery and did PhD in Basic and Applied Biomedical Sciences, with curriculum in Experimental Surgery and Anatomy from the University of Catania. He was awarded a Clinical and Research Fellowship from the Division of General, Digestive and Endocrine Surgery, Hôpital Saint Louis, Paris. He was involved in different research projects related to intestinal preservation and transplantation due to a research fellowship in the Laboratory for Transplantation Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital of Gothenburg, Sweden.
He is affiliated to different research societies. He has been a treasurer of the Italian Society of Surgical Research (SIRC) since 2014. He remained the Councillor of the Sicilian Society of Surgery (SSC) from 2017-2019. He is involved in several research projects regarding fluorescence image guided surgery, experimental microsurgery, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, ERAS protocols in minimally-invasive colorectal surgery. Fluorescence image guided-surgery is one of his favourite research areas and this is confirmed by several publications in this field. He is involved in numerous multicenter international studies. Dr. Pesce is a Reviewer of a number of peer-reviewed international journals, such as Hepatology International, Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International, BMJ Open, HPB Journal, Digestive Surgery, PLOs One, World Journal of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery, World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Journal of Investigative Surgery.
