Prof Luigi Boni, is the Chief of the Department of Surgery at the IRCCS - Ca' Granda - Policlinico Hospital and Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Milan.
Once completed his training in surgical oncology at the Department of Surgery of the University of Insubria in Varese (Italy), he focused his interest in minimally invasive surgery, moving to Dundee (Scotland) where he worked with Sir Alfred Cuschieri for more than 3 years.
Back to Italy, he became Associate Professor of Surgery and he founded and directed for more than 10 years the Minimally Invasive Surgery Research Centre in Varese.
He was visiting professor at the University of Pisa (Italy), Dundee (UK), Imperial College of London (UK).
He published so far more than 300 scientific articles on different topics in peer reviewed, indexed journals and more than 30 chapters in surgical book.
He is active member of several surgical society including the Italian Society of Surgery (SIC), Italian Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery (SICE), the European Surgical Association (ESA) and the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) where is was member of the Journal and Publications Committee and he is currently member of the Technology committee.
He is also member of several editorial board and in particularly since few years he severs as subject editor for Surgical Endoscopy.
He won several award and prices and in particular best video award at the world congress of endoscopic surgery and at the national congress of the Italian society of surgery
He is in the faculty of several well-known centre such as the IRCAD in Strasburg , the Cuschieri Skill Centre in Dundee, the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg and many more.
Prof Boni is also pioneer in specific field of laparoscopic surgery such as single port, fluorescence guided surgery, minilaparoscopy as well as TA-TME. In this field he was one of the faculty of the first course on Thiel Embalmed Cadaver Course held in at the Cuschieri Skill Center in Dundee in May 2014 and a second cadaveric course in February 2016.
Professor Boni performed more than 7000 surgical gastro-intestinal procedures many with minimally invasive technique with main interest in oncologic surgery
