I am an MD/PhD neurosurgeon scientist with a clinical and research focus on brain tumors such as low- and high-grade gliomas (e.g., glioblastoma, astrocytoma), extra-axial intracranial tumors (e.g., meningioma) and skull base tumors (e.g., vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma)). As a neurosurgeon treating brain tumors, I use advanced techniques for brain mapping during awake and sleep surgery, image guidance such as neuronavigation, intraoperative MRI, and fluorescence guided surgery. As a tumor scientist and engineer, I have been developing novel technologies for tumor surgery by better understanding how light interacts with tissue and thus developed a number of fluorescence guided surgery technologies to help improve our diagnosis and treatment of a variety of brain and extra-axial intracranial tumors.
