Bio-Summary:
Dr. Gawad is a Surgical Oncology consultant at the surgical department –National Cancer Institute–NCI-Cairo University ¤tly chairman of the surgical oncology service –National Guard health Affairs-KSA. He received his FRCS from England where he trained in colorectal cancer surgery with particular interest in TME and concomitant nerve sparing alongside minimal invasive surgery at London & Birmingham. His expertise extend to complex and advanced surgical oncology procedures for recurrent /advanced abdominal and pelvic Malignancy, Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) as well as pelvic exenteration.
He has established MDTs at different Cancer centre affiliated to the MOH and NHS in Egypt, Africa (Ethiopia) and has been the co-coordinator for the well-structured MDT for
Gyn-Oncology &Peritoneal Surface Malignancy at -NCI- in 2016 in collaboration with
The Cancer Centre -University of Maryland –Baltimore –USA. He also established the first state service and program for Peritoneal Surface Malignancy at Ismailia Regional Cancer Centre- affiliated to the Ministry of Health in 2016. He is engaged regularly at the ESSO-SSO and PSOGI meetings.
Dr Gawad is currently the chairperson of the membership & International committee at the Egyptian Society of Surgical Oncology-EGSSO.
In July 2018 , he established and chairs the first Surgical Oncology Service at The National Guard medical Affairs –Eastern Province –KSA till now.
In March 2017, He coordinated the first international workshop on Perioperative Management of CRS & HIPEC in collaboration with EGSSO-SSO and Charite University-Berlin in Cairo.
In April 2018, He Co-chaired the second International two days Clinical Workshop of CRS & HIPEC at Cairo In collaboration with EGSSO-SSO-ESSO-Charite that was accredited by involved institutes as the first clinical workshop in the Middle East.
In November 2019 , he Co-chaired and was the program director of the Third International two days hands-on workshop of CRS & HIPEC -PIPEC at Cairo-Egypt that was endorsed by the EGSSO-NCI; Cairo University –ESSO – SSO &PSOGI . In November 2021 he chaired the joint the NCI-EGSSO-SSO-ESSO-BASO meeting in Cairo.
Since 2019 he has been the EGSSO representative in the Global Forum Cancer Surgeons till now.
As for his educational activity , in Collaboration with SSO and South west Medical school –University of Texas , he established the Surgical oncology training Program in accordance to the global surgical oncology curriculum in Ethiopia from 2011-2013.
On the International front, he was elected as an international fellow of SSO in 2006 where he joined the SSO international Membership committee for two successive terms as the SSO regional representative in the middle East. He steered the first BEST of SSO outside USA in 2011 at Cairo , the Second Best of SSO 2018 - the third Best of SSO 2019 & BEST of SSO 2021.
In 2018, he was elected as a member of the SO- Colorectal Task force committee for educational updates and surgical practice .
In 2019 , he was selected to present EGSSO in the Global Forum for Cancer Surgeon-GFCS at SSO for the coming term.
In November 2021 , he was the invited speaker by BASO 2021 in the international session from the Middle East to present the Surgical oncology curriculm & training in Egypt.
Dr. Gawad has many publications in outstanding well reputed Journals and presented his work focusing basically on sphincter preservation in low rectal cancer as well as Peritoneal Surface Malignancy –PSM- at different regional and international societies as SSO & ESSO.
